Last Football Game & Roundball starts

November 19, 2010

Sorry for not getting the blog posted last week and the late post this week.   I have been serving time as a juror and sometimes my day job interferes with my blogging… I hate it when that happens.

Thanks to members of the class of ’75 that came by the tailgate homecoming weekend.  You looked great after 35 years!  It was good seeing Misters O’Connell, Meigs, Spearman, Clinkscales and Witt stop by as they stopped by to visit.  Rumor has it that Misters Hearn and Beall were in the area.  Sadly we did not see many of the class of ’80 except those who are regular Romeo Row guys.   Our football team wore special “Big Red” jerseys and played like we have been expecting them to all year.  They lost but showed some heart and offense that gave some of us hope for the future.

The Dogs travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face SoCon foe Samford in the last game of the season.  It is a game that we can win if we play like we did Homecoming.  It would be nice to be 3-8, not 2-9, but the Dogs will have to put out on the field to win.   The defense will have to hold and the offense will have to score 20+ points if we are to finish with a win.  If they build on Homecoming game we have a very good chance.  We shall see….

The basketball team has played three games and is 1-2 with a humiliating loss (we didn’t even score 40 points!)  to highly respected  Richmond and blew a ten point lead to loss to crosstown rival Charleston Southern.  Both losses were on the road so we will see what home cooking will do when we play James Madison Saturday.  JMU will be favored but we can beat them IF we bring our A game.  We will see what Coach Driesell cooks up for Saturday.

Gotta go….have a great weekend

Yep, it is Homecoming once again.  The way this football season is going Homecoming is a welcomed pastime.  All classes ending in 0 or 5 have their reunion this weekend and the parking lots will be full of those who come not to see the game but to fellowship with their classmates.   For those of us who spent quality time in the old Romeo Company shirt tuck room Homecoming is a time to catch up with old friends and classmates whom we’ve not seen in some time, perhaps since graduation.  Homecoming is a special time at El Cid and I hope you will be a part of it.

The tent will be set up at the usual spot and all who attend this weekend should drop by and say hello.  We expect Romeo men from several classes to show up if for nothing else but to see how the knobs they abused, or the upperclassmen who abused them, turned out as adults.  Drop by on your way to the game if only to say hey.  AAC519 is the spot.  Hope to see  you all Saturday!  We know we will have guys from 77 through 80 there and even a couple of grads from the 2000’s may drop by.  You never know what will happen or who will show up.  AAC519 can be a happening spot or it can just be laid back.  You just never know.  Check previous posts if you need to find us!

We play Elon for Homecoming and we’ll leave it at that.  There is always next year……….
