Cortez Allen Shines + the SoCon POTM

The Citadel’s sophomore right hander  Austin Pritcher has been awarded the SoCon  pitcher of the month for February. Pritcher went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA.  That’s a great start for the kid and the Bulldogs.  This weekend the “Diamond Dogs” face the Samford Bulldogs at the Joe.  Samford is 8-6 overall but are 8-1 at home at 0-5 on the road.  Let’s hope that Samford’s road record is 0-8  Sunday night.

Now let’s switch to football and talk about the NFL combine. Yep, the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Did you know that for the second consecutive year the Bulldogs sent a player to the combine and for the second consecutive year the Bulldog player has IMPROVED his draft status at the combine?  Citadel Defensive back Cortez Allen had an outstanding effort at the combine. Cortez got his combine invite after impressing NFL scouts at the East-West Shrine game in Orlando and he did not disappoint.  Cortez measured 6’1” 197lbs and benched 225 lbs 18 times.  He ran a 4.45  40 and had a10ft 9inch broad jump.  Just to top it all off he finished the Wonderlic IQ test that all combine attendees must take in 12 minutes.  Needless to say our long gray line brother Cortez Allen was impressive.  So impressive that had this to say: “the small school corner who received a late invitation to the combine proved his worth on the field.  He moved quickly in reverse displaying NFL caliber footwork and smooth hips. He looked athletic in all routines and proved himself worthy of a middle-round selection.”  According to reports Cortez has already scheduled workouts with the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos.  Want to know more?  Click on the link below and you’ll see an interview with Cortez.  It is worth your time……have a great weekend.
