Corps Day Weekend

Well, the weekend is here and it promises to be a nice one if you live in the Carolinas. It is Corps Day weekend at old El Cid and the old alma mater celebrates its 168th Birthday. The weekend will have the usual celebrations like dress parades, Regimental Band performances, spring football, baseball and the 1st performance of the 2012 Summerall Guards. The Gold Corps also gather on Corps Day. The Gold Corps are the alums who graduated 50+ years ago and the Class of ’61 enters the Gold Corps this year. Sail on brothers…..

One very fairly new Corps Day tradition is the Principled Leadership Symposium hosted by The Citadel’s Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics. This is the 4th year of the Symposium and it has grown tremendously since its inception. There will be student delegations from colleges through out the southeast, senior military colleges and the federal service academies. The will interact with others exploring topics ranging from military leadership challenges to corporate ethics. There will more than a few alums in attendance also.

If you are close by and want to join in the Corps Day fun, the full program for Corps Day and the Leadership Symposium is available at: http://externalaffairs.citadel.edu/2011Corps_Day

Rooms may be hard to find this weekend but if you are headed down the official Romeo Company hotel, the Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites Charleston Airport/Convention Center at 4841 Tanger Outlet Blvd North Charleston, is the place to be. If you are looking for a room this weekend, or any other weekend, call 1-843-300-3100 ask for The Citadel rate. Bill Carter, Romeo ’79 and his staff will do you right and yes; it will be our HQ during football season.

The spring football game will be at Johnson Hagood Saturday afternoon at 1330 hours. First pitch for Saturday’s baseball game will be 1500 hours. If you are tired of March Madness & need a Citadel sports fix do a football/baseball double header. This weekend’s baseball opponent is Davidson. They are 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the SoCon. We should match up favorably against them but I jinxed the Bulldogs last week so I am saying NOTHING. OBTW, Tuesday’s game with Winthrop was rained out but we lost to them on Wednesday night to extend our losing streak to 4.

DID YOU KNOW: that TERRENCE REESE ’10 is the starting defensive tackle for the Arena Football team in Pittsburgh? If you live in the Pittsburgh area go to the game and give him a Bulldog shout out.

Finally, Baird Sanders, Romeo ’85 is Swimming around Key West to raise awareness and $$$ for the Florence Crittenton Programs of South Carolina. The information is in the blog and Baird’s e-mail and other contact information is included. I’m in for $25 Baird……but you gotta finish the swim!

Have a great weekend!
